Setting:
This story takes place in New York City in the present day projects. It also takes place at a drug rehabititation place called Daytop.

The point of view in this book is mostly in 1st person point of view from the main character Clay, but it would change to 3rd person omniscient.
Plot:
Clay was a troubled kid most of his life until his parents senthim to Daytop, a drug help center for teens. There, he is reunited with this cousin Addison. Even though they are at Daytop, they still get in trouble. Clay has to deal with his unarmed cousin being shot right in front of him. Will Clay finally tell the truth and do the right thing?
Clay

Clay lives in New York City. He got into trouble with drugs and is sent to a drug and alcohol help center with his cousin. Clay has seen his cousin get shot right in front of him. And he has been questioned about the shooting, and hasn't been telling the whole truth.
Addison

Addison is Clay's cousin who also live in a New York City apartment. He was caught selling drugs on the corner and got sent to the same drug and alcohol help center as Clay. Addison was shot by the police on a rooftop in the project unarmed because of troubles still in the past.
'Clorox'

Clorox was in Daytop, the same help center as Clay and Addison. Addison and Clay had to chase Clorox onto the rooftop because he owed them money. On that rooftop is where Addison was shot.
Miss Della

Miss Della was the Daytop councelor/teacher. She helps all the people overcome their problems and move on from drugs and alcohol.
Darrel

Darrel is Addison's younger brother. Addison had one wish that was for Clay to keep Darrel off the corner and to keep him from selling drugs. Clay must go behind his back to stop his habit.
Conflicts
There are many conflicts in the book Rooftop. One of the main conflicts would be Clay vs. Drugs, Addison vs. Drugs, Clay vs. Society, Clay vs. Racism, and lastly Addison vs. Clorox. Addison and Clay delt with drug and alcohol problems that they had to work to overcome. When Addison was shot, the cop was white and Addison was black which brought up racism. Was it racism or was it necessary? Clay got questioned many times by the government to find out if it truely was out of racism or not. Clorox owed Addison money, but Clorox didn't want to pay his debt so he ran away.
Themes No matter how hard you try, you can't get over something until the whole truth is known.
Clay tells a slight lie about what happened on the Rooftop, and he feels guilty that an innocent cop could be punished, but he does't how to come out with the whole truth.
